Structured Audit of the PHMP for Gas Monitoring Preview Meeting 1st March 2018.

MRE – Grosvenor Coal Mine – 01.03.2018

On the 1st of March Inspectors Gouldstone, Marlborough and Brown visit Grosvenor Mine to explain the Structured Audit of the Principal Hazard Management Plan for Gas Monitoring which is scheduled for the 19th of March.

 

This follows the comments in the Mine Record Entry of the 18th January

 

Inspector Marlborough made reference to other experiences in the Bowen Basin at mines where exceedances had occurred. Following exerted pressure from the Department and greater recognition by Mines of the hazard of elevated methane levels, substantially more effort and investment had been made into methane drainage capacity and efficiency. This was clearly increasing the amount of gas drained, decreasing operational downtime by early intervention to avoid exceedances rather than cutting to trigger trip events. Most importantly risk was being reduced.Inspector Marlborough references exerted pressure from Department and greater recognition of dangers of elevated methane resulting in substantial effort and investment into methane drainage, increasing methane drained, lowering downtime and avoiding Methane Exceddances rather than cutting to trigger methane trips events. (HPI’s). Most importantly risk was being reduced.

 

 

, Thursday 1 March 2018 arriving at llam Inspectors Gouldstone, Marlborough and Brown arrived at Grosvenor Mine to explain to Mine personnel the proposal for the forthcoming Structured Audit of the PHMP for Gas Monitoring.

We were met by –

Mr Garry Morrissey (Ventilation and Gas Drainage Superintendent) )

Mr Michael Webber (VO)

Mr Wayne Pate (Compliance Superintendent)

Mr Marc Kirsten (SSE) was unavailable due to a previous engagement

The following were discussed to allow the Mine to prepare for the audit and to limit the amount of disruption the process will generate.
