Grosvenor 29 LW Methane HPI’s in 2019 and 14 in 2020 before the Ignition on May 6th. What happened to May 2018 “It was also acknowledged that continued HPI’s with Methane greater than 2.5% was not satisfactory and the mine must ensure that such HPl’s are minimised, and preferably eliminated going forward.”? SWEET F… ALL!

It was also acknowledged that continued HPI’s with Methane greater than 2.5% was not satisfactory and the mine must ensure that such HPI’s are minimised, and preferably eliminated going forward.…

Following exerted pressure from the Department and greater recognition by Mines of the hazard of elevated methane levels, substantially more effort and investment had been made into methane drainage capacity and efficiency. This was clearly increasing the amount of gas drained, decreasing operational downtime by early intervention to avoid exceedances rather than cutting to trigger trip events. Most importantly risk was being reduced.

Between the 6th and 8th of January there were Five (5) methane HPI’s in the Tailgate of LW 102. The first when the Longwall had retreated 29m and the last…

The risk assessment does not mention the risk of an ignition of Methane as a potential hazard. This has to be a major hazard when considering Methane levels of in the TG, as the primary source of the methane is the Longwall goaf gas, which inevitably will flow in the vicinity of the chain pillar rib line. Inspector Marlborough next MRE about the Grosvenor Procedures for  GRO-750-TARP-General Body Contaminant is dated the 13th of October 2017 I found this sentence of the MRE about how the Grosvenor…

“The Level 2 and 3 triggers for Methane for the Longwall return that require the Shearer speed to be reduced by 30% or to stop the shearer do not occur when the shearer is in the TG Shuffle Zone; Has the Methane ignition risk been assessed for this in the risk assessment when developing this TARP?” Les Marlborough Inspector of Mines 12th September

Now Mines Inspector issues a written Section 168 Directive to Grosvenor Mine SSE on the 12th of September 2017. The mine is to review the GRO-750-TARP-General Body Contaminant and the…

2017 Methane HPI’s at Grosvenor Mine

  • July 13, 2021

I have collated all the Methane HPI's from 2017 I possess and they are in the link below. Methane HPI's Grosvenor 2017 Some of the ones that stand out include…

Dobson Methane S166 Directive Dec 2016 does not force Grosvenor to take action about controlling methane. All it does is tell the Mine to make sure workers are withdrawn to a place of safety when Methane >2.5 in each place used by a person for normal work or travel and it is immediately reported to the Inspectors.

I do not believe that the wording of Inspector Dobson's Directive is even appropriate for using a Section 166  Directive to reduce risk. What exactly was the intention of the…
