North Goonyella Fire Report Release. Mines Inspectorate had full knowledge and daily oversight from 3rd September 2018 onwards

Reason 3

The out of Control Spontaneous Combustion and Fire at North Goonyella was not a surprise to the Mines Inspectorate.

From the 3rd of September onwards up to 3 Mines Inspectors per day were attending North Goonyella Mine and involving themselves in efforts to bring the situation under control. This is the first of those MRE’s below

LM MRE – North Goonyella – 03.09.2018.pdf

Almost every action undertaken from that day forward was with the full knowledge and on many occasions under the direct suggestion of the Mines Inspectorate. There are daily Mine Record Entries from the 3rd of September till the 16th of October by the Mines Inspectorate.

Amongst those who were had to be compelled to give evidence, it has been strongly suggested that some former Mines Inspectors intimately involved in oversight of North Goonyella were amongst these individuals.

The Chief Inspector at the time Luca Rocchi is now Head of Technical Services (Metallurgical Coal) at Anglo American.

The Regional Inspector of Mines (Mackay) at the time Les Marlborough is now the Underground Mine Manager at the Anglo Aquila Mine
