QUEENSLAND COAL OPEN CUT HISTORICAL DUST EXPOSURE 2000 to 2018
The number of workers now diagnosed with Coal Workers’ Pneumoconiosis (CWP) has climbed well over One- Hundred and Twenty (120) at last count.
Coal Workers’ Pneumoconiosis (CWP) is commonly referred to as “Black Lung”.
An overwhelming majority of these workers are Open Cut Mineworkers.
The figures strongly suggest that many, many long-term Open Cut workers have been exposed to levels of Silica well above the 20-year threshold for workplace exposure.
1) The principle cause for these Open Cut Workers being diagnosed with CWP is very likely from Silica Dust, and they in fact have Silicosis.
2) Only Four (4) Open Cut Coal Mines have higher rates of Total Dust Failures than Silica Dust Failures.
3) At the bare minimum an average of at least 7% to 17% of the workforce were being exposed to illegal and unknown levels of Silica Dust every shift every day between 2001 and 2015
