Glenn Britton Reign As Anglo’s Head Of Underground Operations.

Glenn Britton Reign as Anglo’s Head of Underground Operations.

Glenn Britton was promoted from General Manager/SSE at Moranbah North Mine to Head of Underground Operations in 2012, responsible for all underground mines.

During his reign, three fatalities occurred in the mines he was responsible for, under the General Managers/SSE and Underground Mine Managers he appointed:

2014: Paul McGuire – Grasstree – Asphyxiation through entry to goaf.

2014: Ian Downs – Grasstree – Rib Fall GM/SSE:

2019: Bradley Hardwick – Moranbah North Mine – Runover by own Grader

Very little information comes from the Mines Department in relation to any prosecutions.

One thing that seems apparent is that charges against individuals dropped in exchange for the company pleading guilty and relatively small fines.

Since then

2020: Five workers horrifically burnt during a methane explosion

2020: Grosvenor mine – subsequent explosion, sealing of longwall panel, loss of $300M longwall equipment.

Will the Anglo’s 2013, $2.5+Billion operation suffer the same fate as North Goonyella, only time will tell?

Why did it take so much death and destruction for Glenn to fall on his sword or be thanked for his efforts and given a retirement package?

By all reports Glenn is now back in Great Britain, never to return and never called to account.

Of course none of Anglo’s actions prior to July 2019 fall within the terms of Reference.
